Edgewater Park
Everett, WA
At Everett’s Edgewater Park, MxM was challenged to produce a design that would reinvigorate this neighborhood park with a greater diversity of supported activities and increased total capacity of users, all while improving safety and accessibility at this approximately 1-acre site.
A community-built pergola at the core of the park is maintained to anchor new sequence of nature-themed play spaces. To the east, a new multi-sport court is striped and sized to accommodate a mix of net sports and even half court basketball—a major upgrade from the outgoing and aged single-purpose tennis court. An open grass field to the west invites informal play, while an accessible path loop gently winding the perimeter of the site makes for a destination in its own right. Plantings are positioned to enhance the sense of scale at this compressed site, even as necessary infrastructure from a nearby bridge improvement is tucked away to have minimal impact on visitors’ enjoyment of the park.
