The Kids Discovery Museum is a beacon for both kids and parents on Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula. After so much love, its outdoor area was in need of a refresh.

Working with the staff, board, and young clients at KiDiMu, MxM helped develop a landscape plan to improve the entry sequence to the musuem and unify the pre- and post-ticketing outdoor visitor experience. A new gateway leads to a garden filled with musical instruments from the cultural communities that have called Bainbridge home as well as artful homes for native birds. Visitors then curve around the sunken play area where a stream emerges below a treehouse and “flows” under a new entry bridge before turning into a dry creek surrounding landscaped islands. New active play, social, and water elements create a more rich and diverse set of experiences for the kids on site and compliment the museum’s pedagogical objectives: to learn throuhg play.

The project is currently in the fundraising phase and is hoped to be constructed in 2024.
