Railspur
SEATTLE, WA
Named for the railways that once ran through the site, Railspur encompasses three historic warehouse buildings in Pioneer Square. Constructed of brick and timber, the structures—and the corridors between them—connected the Great Northern Railway and the bustling port of Seattle, and are now a key connector between Pioneer Square, the waterfront and the surrounding neighborhoods and stadiums.
Focused on preservation and sustainability, community and innovation, this transformative micro-district includes office, retail, restaurant, residential, and hospitality experiences.
MxM team members led a landscape design team focused on fine-grain urbanism and alley activation. The Railspur project upgrades the public spaces to create a fine grained urban experience where every detail is thoughtfully considered.
After arriving via streetcar, visitors will find that remnants from the historic rail alignment define the space between buildings and a new curb extension becomes a welcoming gateway for the entire Pioneer Square neighborhood for visitors arriving from the south.
